Partnership Week 1 Notes

Where to Find Partners

• Ask at your club or ask your local guru
• Go to a class
• Go to a tournament/look up the tournament chair
• Become a mentor

When You Play

• ALWAYS BE FRIENDLY AND RESPECTFUL TO PARTNER
• Every time you play, you are presenting yourself as a potential partner
• Talk to other players, ask them if they’d like to play

Partnership Timeline

• The Blind Date (Sessions 1 and 2)
• Building a relationship (sessions 3-10)
• A lasting partnership (sessions 11+)

The Blind Date. The first sessions

• Always be respectful
• Make sure you both know that it might be a one time experience
• Don’t make too many agreements
• Don’t correct partner’s mistakes

Developing Agreements

• Now you can slowly add conventions back if needed
• ONE CONVENTION AT A TIME! Don’t overload yourselves
• ASBAF (All strange bids are forcing)

Lasting Partnership

• Be careful not to slide into bad habits (familiarity sometimes breeds contempt)
• Avoid adding conventions just for the sake of it
• Travel together to tournaments! Keep it fresh!
• Still be open to other partners.
