Bridge with Larry Cohen Newsletter
Happenings in the world of bridge
Greetings!
Do you like to watch bridge on-line? Read about how to watch
the top Americans in play--right now--this month. I'll be
playing, starting on June 1 (more below).
Also, this month, I introduce the details of something I've
been planning for a long time. My "own" 6-star bridge
cruises to Asia for fall, 2009. Aside from my daily lectures
(intermediate), I am planning visits to local bridge clubs
in Japan and China. Even if it does you no good, I'd
appreciate any "spreading of the word."
This month is part 6 of my bidding-article series, and there
is also a report with many interesting deals from a regional
I played in recently.
GATLINBURG
Deals
In this
tournament report, read about the phenomenon that is
Gatlinburg. I played some very entertaining and instructive
deals, all written up
here.
Shown is my team for the week (back row: LC-David
Berkowitz, Steve Weinstein-Bobby Levin. In the front row:
Jerry Helms-Bob Hampton)
Grand Asia
Bridge Cruises with Larry
Please help me spread the word about these glamorous
6-star cruises for Fall, 2009.
On each of these 2-week segments, there will be my daily
VuGraph bridge lectures (intermediate), duplicate games for
our group, and still time to see:
Sep 16-Oct 1, 2009 Alaska to Japan
Oct 1-Oct 17, 2009 Japan to Hong Kong (Shanghai, Beijing)
Oct 17-Nov 1, 2009 Hong Kong to Singapore

Part 6 in the Series
This month we explore
1-of-a-Major Openings. It may sound simple, but this
review certainly won't hurt.
Read about opening requirements and modern responses.
Next month, the more complex issue of handling interference.
Watch me play in the Team Trials
Live BBO coverage
Beginning June 1, 2008, my team will be playing the
quarterfinals of the U.S. Bridge Championships. This event
will determine the U.S. representative for the World
Championships later this year in China.
Coverage will be daily on BBO. If you don't already have
it (it is free), you can download it
here. Please don't laugh if I make any errors. And,
don't believe everything you read. If they say I messed it
up, maybe they are mistaken :)
Losing at Lille
10-year Anniversary
It's hard to believe that 10 years have passed. In June,
1998 I suffered my worst-ever bridge defeat.
In this (very long) advanced-to-expert level article,
I wrote all the gory details of this sad tale.
