Levin-Weinstein

In
May, for the third time, Bobby Levin & Steve Weinstein won the
prestigious Cavendish Invitational Tournament. First prize was
$274,000.
I did on-line commentary for BBO,
and found many interesting deals to write about. Two of them are here:

The
origin of Total Tricks
Marty
Bergen taught me the Law
of Total Tricks and helped popularize it with all of his
conventions.
Most people don't realize that the LAW was first "discovered" many years ago in France by Jean- Rene Vernes (with whom I had a nice exchange of letters before he passed away several years ago). His original article was published in the Bridge World Magazine in the late 1960's. Please be aware that some of this material is dated (methods have changed greatly in the past 40 years). My
Biggest Secret
Maybe
this is really Zia's secret. Twenty years ago he told me, "Larry,
the biggest part of bridge is to push the opponents from two to
three."
I agree. Nothing gives me more pleasure than pushing them up. I'd rather push them from 2H to 3H than bid and make a grand slam! The key is to ACT AGGRESSIVELY WHEN THEY HAVE AN 8-CARD FIT. I don't always balance and always try to push them--it all depends on the early auction. To read more, click here. |
