Happenings
in the world of bridge
Greetings!
Hello again from the tournament/teaching trail. My wife and I
are now on week 10 of a 20-week U.S. tour. (This photo is from
our teaching seminars in July in Ohio.)
Last month, I taught in Vermont and Ohio and played in
tournaments in Illinois and Tennessee. Reports and other bridge
articles are in this month's newsletter.
Mixed
Raise
It's
on the house
Most
of you know that I am not a "convention pusher." I
believe in "Keeping It Simple."
However, certain conventions are "freebies." What I
mean by this is that they are simple to apply, easy to remember,
useful, not accident prone, etc. Such a convention is the "jump
cue-bid mixed raise." It sounds fancy, but it is really
quite simple and easy to add to your repertoire. Click here

What
happens on a "Bridge Cruise?"
Is
it really bridge?
For
99% of the readers of this newsletter, bridge on a cruiseship
would be a joke. The typical game on a cruise is a bit suspect.
If you're lucky, the players may have heard of Stayman or
Blackwood.
However, an "organized bridge cruise," with a
"guest teacher/bridge star" is a different story.
There are "real bridge players" with daily lessons and
duplicate games at a reasonable level. To read more, click

Opening
Leads
Hard
Times on the 2007 Tournament Trail
This
month and next I'd like to share some deals from the tournament
trail (good, bad, and ugly).
Let's start with the ugly. To read about some tragic opening
leads, click
here.
A
Happy Number
A
"good" from Nashville
Next
month, I'll have a full report on the Nationals. For now,
though, to offset that article on the "ugly" (Opening
Leads), here
is something that was more fun.
Fighting
the LAW
An
Oldie, but Goodie
I've
previously sent this article to my mailing list. Many of you
have joined since, so here is a flashback to my article
about "fighting the LAW."

As
usual, the new partnership practice hands are posted on my
